On July 21, 2019, the grit chamber hopper at the Tull C.Allen Wastewater Treatment Plant malfunctioned, causing an overflow at Silver Run Road. The area was treated and disinfected. As a preventive measure, an auto shut-off will be added to turn off the pump if a maximum water level is reached.
On February 20-22, 2019, there was an extreme rain and flooding event where much of the sewer system was under water. Oxford experienced sanitary sewer overflows at the following locations:
- 30 East 4th Street
- 1513 Lee Avenue
- 928 Edgewood Drive
- 31 Teague Street
- 131 Teague Street
- 34 Suzanell Lane
- 2250 Alabama Highway 21 South
All these areas were treated and disinfected once the flood waters receded.
On March 4, 2019, a sanitary sewer overflow occurred at Teague Street due to heavy rains and flooding. The pumps were checked in the lift station and a broken wear ring was repaired. The area was treated and disinfected once the overflow had stopped.
